Chinese Ambassador Chen Song Discusses with Finance Minister Pun

The Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Mr. Chen Song, paid a courtesy call to Finance Minister Mr. Barsha Man Pun on Tuesday. During their meeting, they discussed ways to promote trade, investment, infrastructure, connectivity, and other relevant fields of cooperation between China and Nepal.

The discussion centered around bilateral cooperation and mutual interests. Minister Pun emphasized the need for expediting Chinese-funded development projects in Nepal, expressing his desire for swift progress. He commended China’s economic growth and anti-poverty measures, suggesting that Nepal could learn from their experience.

Minister Pun highlighted that despite Nepal’s current economic challenges, Nepali citizens are keen on development progress. He expressed hope for additional cooperation from both bilateral and multilateral agencies.

Minister Pun assured progress in implementing the second cluster of the Ring Road expansion project, which is funded by China. This includes the construction of the 220KV Jilong-Kerung-Rasuwagadhi-Chilime transnational transmission line.

Additionally, Minister Pun inquired about the feasibility study for the ‘Cross Himalaya Railway’ project, which was agreed upon during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s visit to China last year. He emphasized that this railway project is a dream project for Nepali citizens and urged its prompt implementation by the Chinese side.

Expressing gratitude for China’s decision to operate Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi transit points regularly, Minister Pun called for the opening of other transit points along the Nepal-China border. He also hoped for the swift completion of the feasibility study for the Tokha-Chhahare Tunnel Way, a priority project for Nepal.

Minister Pun reminded Ambassador Chen about the upcoming third Nepal Investment Summit. The cooperation between China and Nepal continues to evolve, fostering stronger ties and shared progress.

Expressing well-wishes for the Nepal Investment Summit, the ambassador committed to fostering China’s active involvement in the event.

As articulated, China places Nepal’s economic and social advancement at the forefront and expresses keen interest in investing across Nepal’s agricultural, industrial, and technical domains.

The Chinese government seeks to collaborate closely with Nepal, elevating bilateral relations to unprecedented heights, propelling mutual development, and fostering prosperity. The Chinese envoy assured that stronger ties between the neighboring nations lie ahead.
