In a notable development, Nepal’s political landscape has witnessed a significant shift with the formation of a new left-led coalition between the Maoist Centre and UML, sidelining the Nepali Congress.
As part of this shift, Foreign Minister NP Saud, along with all ministers of the Puspa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ Cabinet, has been relieved of their duties.
Saud’s cancellation of his visit to Finland, which was scheduled at short notice, had raised eyebrows.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) issued a statement citing “special circumstances” for the postponement, without elaborating further on the nature of these circumstances.
Initially planned to participate in the ‘Second UN LDC Future Forum’ in Helsinki, Saud expressed his gratitude in a farewell note, highlighting his tenure’s accomplishments and expressing optimism for ongoing initiatives related to Nepali citizens involved in conflict areas and those living abroad.
In his X account he has said “Nearly one year in the government as the country’s Foreign Minister remained a satisfying experience. In accomplishing this important responsibility, I received support and cooperation from political leadership, civil servants, diplomatic community, media fraternity and all fellow countrymen, for which I am grateful to all of them. Progress has been made on issues related to Nepalis involved in a war front and I am hopeful of positive results soon. In the promotion of the country’s interests, enhancing its image and ensuring welfare of Nepalis who live outside in huge number, my sincere efforts and contribution will continue to be there in different roles.”
