MCA-Nepal recently signed a significant contract with Linxon India Pvt Ltd for the construction of the 400 kV New Butwal Substation in Nawalparasi district, Lumbini Province.

This gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substation is a crucial part of the Electricity Transmission Project, which aims to strengthen Nepal’s energy infrastructure.

Dignitaries, including Kulman Ghising (Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority) and US Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R Thompson, attended the event.

Ambassador Thompson emphasized the pivotal role of the New Butwal Substation in fostering cross-border energy trade and supporting economic growth.

NEA Managing Director Ghising highlighted that the 400 kV substation will significantly increase cross-border energy trade in the region.

MCA-Nepal’s Executive Director, Khadga Bahadur Bisht, discussed progress in implementing the MCC Nepal Compact and the ongoing construction of transmission lines and substations.

In addition to the New Butwal Substation, MCA-Nepal is also leading the construction of two other substations in Ratmate (Nuwakot district) and Damauli (Tanahun district). These efforts will further enhance Nepal’s energy grid.

With the Nepal portion of the New Butwal-Gorakhpur power transmission line advancing, Nepal is well-positioned to facilitate timely cross-border power trade as outlined in the agreement with India
