The Sunkoshi Marine Diversion Multi-Purpose Project, hailed as a national Pride Project, achieved a significant milestone on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda officiated the project’s ‘Break-Through’ ceremony.

Prachanda urged officials to expedite the remaining tasks of the Sunsari Marin Diversion Multipurpose Project within the allocated timeframe.
During his site visit to monitor the project in Sunkoshi rural municipality, he emphasized the importance of swiftly identifying and addressing any potential challenges that may arise during the project’s execution.
Recognizing the project’s extensive scope, PM Dahal stressed the need for proactive planning and preparedness to ensure timely completion and return on investment.

He instructed project leaders to devise a comprehensive action plan outlining both incentives and penalties for project staff.
Furthermore, PM Prachanda underscored the priority of completing construction activities related to the barrage, powerhouse, electromechanical components, transmission lines, river management, and social development initiatives within the specified timeframe. He assured full government support, emphasizing that budget constraints would not hinder the project’s progress.
PM Prachanda also highlighted the transformative potential of the Sunkoshi Marine Diversion Multi-Purpose Project, noting its anticipated positive impact on the national economy. He expressed confidence that the project would enhance agricultural productivity, contribute to economic growth, and generate hydropower upon completion.

Emphasizing the significance of the agricultural sector in Nepal’s economic development, PM Prachanda stressed the importance of increasing agricultural output to achieve food security, economic prosperity, and poverty reduction.
He emphasized the role of irrigation projects, particularly in the Terai-Madhesh region, in utilizing water resources efficiently for agricultural purposes and overall national development.

The Sunkoshi Marine Diversion Multi-Purpose Project aims to divert water from the Sunkoshi River to the Bagmati Irrigation Project through a 13.3 km tunnel, providing year-round irrigation to approximately 45,600 hectares of land in Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, and Bara districts.
