The Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) General Prabhu Ram Sharma reassured the public that Nepal is currently experiencing no significant security threats.

Speaking before the Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns Committee of the National Assembly, General Sharma acknowledged minor security challenges stemming from factors such as the sensitive geopolitical environment, porous borders, climate change, labor migration, cyber threats, and emerging AI technologies.

However, he underscored that these challenges are manageable and effectively controlled.

General Sharma highlighted that incidents related to religious, cultural, and ethnic differences occasionally occur but are typically addressed at the local level by political entities, indicating a strong mechanism for resolving conflicts within the country.

Regarding domestic movements like those led by the Mongol National Organisation and individual activists such as Durga Prasain, General Sharma stated that they do not pose significant national security threats.

Moreover, General Sharma discussed the regional ramifications of instability in neighboring countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as the escalating rivalry between India and China.

He noted that while these dynamics indirectly influence Nepal, particularly concerning regional power dynamics and stability, the Nepali Army remains vigilant and adaptable to the changing political landscape, ensuring the nation’s safety and security amidst internal and external challenges.
