Dr. Min Bahadur Shrestha, the vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission of Nepal, was met by Veronique Lorenzo, the ambassador of the European Union delegation to Nepal. Vice-Chairman Shrestha and Ambassador Lorenzo met formally on Monday at the Singha Durbar Commission office.

According to a news release from the NPC, topics covered at the meeting included the multi-sector nutrition program, the 16th Plan that the Commission is now preparing, and the effect that upgrading Nepal from an LDC to a developing country will have on commerce between Nepal and the EU.

Vice-Chairman Shrestha expressed gratitude to the EU for their assistance. Declaring that recommendations from all areas are being considered in the preparation of the 16th Plan, he stated that the plan will be designed to meet the goal.

Additionally, the Vice-Chairman and EU Ambassador Lorenzo spoke on the implications for trade with the EU and the steps being taken to make up for it. She declared that the EU would support Nepal’s green economy and reduce the country’s infrastructure deficit.

According to Ambassador Lorenzo, the EU places a high priority on collaboration and support for Nepal’s federalism and good governance as well as for human capital (high-quality education). She has stated that she will support Nepal’s multi-sector nutrition program and the 16th plan.

She added that Nepal needs to do its share to maintain the amenities it is receiving from the international community because it would upgrade from a least developed to a developing nation in 2026.
