Nepal’s Minister for Water Supply, Pradeep Yadav, and India’s Union Minister of Jal Shakti, CR Patil, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene sectors.
The MoU was signed during a special ceremony held in New Delhi, India. Representing their respective governments, Minister Yadav and Minister Patil formalized the agreement, which aims to strengthen bilateral collaboration in water supply, sanitation, and waste management, informed Er Ram Kumar Shrestha, Director General of the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management.
“The MoU will boost cooperation between Nepal and India in managing drinking water resources, promoting sanitation, waste management, and enhancing the Government of Nepal’s initiatives to ensure access to clean water,” said Shrestha.
The agreement outlines key areas of cooperation, including groundwater management, rainwater harvesting, technological exchange, information sharing, and capacity-building programs through technical training and assistance.

The pact acknowledges Nepal’s concerns regarding water security and aims to improve access to safe drinking water while creating a safe and sustainable environment for livelihoods.
The signing event was attended by Nepal’s Ambassador to India, Shankar Prasad Sharma, Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, Indian Water Power Ministry Secretaries Ashok Meena and Devashree Murkhaji, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Nepali Embassy Dr. Surendra Thapa, Secretary of Nepal’s Ministry of Water Supply, E Pramila Devi Shakya Bajracharya, Joint Secretary E Meena Shrestha, and Director General E Ram Kumar Shrestha, among others.
Minister Yadav is set to return to Nepal on Tuesday.
