The Nepali Army has been conducting the “Clean Mountains Campaign” since 2019, aiming to clean up major mountains in the country.
During this effort, they collected 11 metric tons of garbage, including 2,226 kilograms of biodegradable waste and 8,774 kilograms of non-biodegradable waste from Mount Everest, Mt. Lhotse, and Mt. Nuptse.

Additionally, four dead bodies and one human skeleton were retrieved during the campaign.
The biodegradable waste was handed over to the Everest Pollution Control Committee, while the non-degradable waste was sent to a recycling company in Kathmandu.
The human remains were disposed of at the TU Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj. The cleaning team successfully climbed Mount Everest during the 55-day campaign.
Overall, 12 dead bodies and 180 metric tons of garbage have been collected from major mountains as part of this initiative
