Chetnath Acharya, a veteran journalist from Nepal, has been recognized as the most dedicated foreign expert by the Foreign Affairs Bureau of the China Media Group (CMG) for his outstanding contributions.

The award ceremony, held at the CMG headquarters in Beijing on Wednesday, celebrated Acharya’s remarkable dedication to his work.

Acharya, who has been working with CMG for over a decade, expressed his surprise at receiving the honor. “I didn’t anticipate being honored when I joined the program; they recognized me as having outstanding accomplishments and dedication to the work in 2023,” he remarked.

“It came as a pleasant surprise during a workshop titled ‘China’s Development Experience in the Eyes of Foreigners.'”

Despite being one of over 60 foreign journalists at CMG’s Asia and Africa Center, Acharya stood out as the sole recipient of the prestigious award from his department.

Alongside him, colleagues from Bulgaria and the United States were also honored, highlighting CMG’s commitment to recognizing excellence across its diverse workforce.

CMG, formed through the merger of several prominent media entities, including China International Radio (CRI) and China Global Television Network (CGTN), is renowned as the world’s largest media group.

Operating in over 65 languages, CMG plays a pivotal role in shaping global narratives about China’s development and achievements.

Acharya’s accolades extend beyond CMG, as he was recently awarded the “Outstanding Foreign Translation Expert Award” by the Chinese Translators Association.

His book, “China in the New Era,” underscores his expertise, offering insights into China’s rapid development and its global impact.

Despite the challenges of working abroad, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, Acharya remains dedicated to fostering understanding between Nepal and China.

His commitment to providing accurate information about China to the Nepali public has earned him widespread respect and admiration.

In response to the honor, Acharya expressed his gratitude to the CMG Foreign Affairs Bureau and all those who supported him throughout his journey.

He pledged to continue his diligent work in strengthening bilateral ties and promoting mutual understanding between Nepal and China.
