Bishnu Paudel, Nepal’s former Deputy Premier, Finance Minister, and Vice-Chairperson of CPN UML, delivered a compelling speech titled “The Global Development Initiative: Promoting World Peace” at the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) on Thursday, March 28th.

In his address, Paudel emphasized the urgent need for collaborative efforts to tackle the intricate global challenges that hinder both development and peace worldwide. He expressed sincere gratitude to the BFA for providing an invaluable platform to discuss critical issues facing Asia and the world.

Focusing on the forum’s theme, “The Global Development Initiative: Promoting World Peace,” Paudel praised China’s leadership for launching the GDI.

He highlighted its people-centered approach and unwavering commitment to ensuring no country is left behind. Paudel aligned Nepal’s development priorities with the GDI’s objectives, particularly in addressing poverty reduction, food security, climate change, and digital advancement.

As a close neighbor of China, Paudel underscored the potential benefits of enhanced collaboration in areas such as infrastructure development, technology transfer, and capacity building. He expressed confidence that such cooperation would significantly accelerate Nepal’s national development efforts.

However, Paudel also stressed the importance of transparency and debt sustainability within the GDI. To achieve sustainable and equitable development, he advocated for concessional financing, knowledge sharing, and customized projects that cater to the specific needs of developing countries, fostering trust and inclusivity within the initiative.

The BFA’s annual conference, held in Boao, South China’s picturesque coastal town, continues to serve as a vital platform for dialogue on critical global issues.
