Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Prabhu Ram Sharma, in his recent address, emphasized the critical importance of collective action and unwavering commitment to safeguard Nepal’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, nationality, dignity, border security, and economic prosperity.

Speaking at the inauguration of a high-level national security training program jointly organized by the Defense Ministry and the Nepali Army at the Army Command and Staff College, CoAS Sharma underscored the need for a shared understanding and coordinated efforts.

He stressed that analyzing both national and international contexts is essential for formulating effective policies that protect Nepal’s interests.

The global landscape, marked by direct and indirect tensions among powerful nations, presents significant challenges for smaller states like Nepal.

Geopolitical sensitivity, the porous open border, and the interests of influential countries all contribute to Nepal’s security challenges. Additionally, religious and communal conflicts, as well as covert activities by separatist groups, pose threats to national security.

CoAS Sharma also highlighted the importance of studying traditional and modern security concerns, socioeconomic factors, and development landscapes. He called for adaptability in Nepal’s national security policy and strategy to align with the evolving global security scenario.

Defense Secretary Kiran Raj Sharma echoed the need for multi-sectoral dialogue, coordination, and cooperation to strengthen national security.

The ongoing ninth edition of this high-level training program involves participants from diverse sectors, including ministries, constitutional bodies, universities, civil society organizations, media, the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and the National Investigation Department.

Over the years, a total of 173 individuals have benefited from this training initiative since 2072BS.
