Army Chief Sigdel Receives Honorary Rank from the Indian Army, Meets Counterpart

Nepal’s Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), General Ashok Raj Sigdel, has been awarded the honorary rank of General in the Indian Army.

The honorary rank was conferred upon General Sigdel by President Draupadi Murmu during a special ceremony held at Rastrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Thursday.

The ceremony was attended by Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, along with senior military and security officials, as well as representatives from the Nepali Embassy.

During the event, Sigdel was addressed as ‘Suprabal Janasewashree Maharathi.’

CoAS Sigdel and Chief of the Army Staff of India Upendra Dwivedi met in New Delhi, India, on Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, CoAS Sigdel laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in New Delhi and paid tributes to the brave martyrs. A contingent of the Indian Army offered a guard of honour to CoAS Sigdel on the occasion.

Nepal and India have a long-standing tradition of conferring honorary military ranks.

Nepal’s President Ram Chandra Poudel had conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army on Indian Army Chief General Dwivedi.
