Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury of Bangladesh paid a courtesy visit to Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav today in Nepal. During their meeting at the Vice President’s office, they discussed various matters of mutual interest and concern, including bilateral relations, trade, and tourism.

The Vice President expressed his satisfaction with the growing trade between the two nations and emphasized the potential for further expansion and diversification.

He extended gratitude to the Bangladeshi government for facilitating transit through the Chittagong and Mongla ports, enabling trade with third countries. Additionally, he underscored the importance of promoting transit cooperation via these sea ports by initiating the Rohanpur-Singhabad railway.

Vice President Yadav highlighted the energy cooperation opportunities between Nepal and Bangladesh. The 2018 Memorandum of Understanding on electricity cooperation stands as a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral ties in the energy sector.

He welcomed Bangladesh’s investments in energy and commended the discussions between Bangladesh and India’s GMR regarding the import of 500 MW of electricity from Nepal’s Upper Karnali hydropower project. Furthermore, he found Bangladesh’s proposal for joint investment in the Sunkoshi-3 project encouraging, believing it would benefit both nations.

Bangladesh also plays a crucial role as a source of tourists for Nepal. Vice President Yadav referenced the cultural agreement signed in January 1978, emphasizing the close cultural ties and people-to-people connections between the two countries.
