Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has stated that disruptions in the global energy and supply system have created serious challenges in poverty alleviation and achieving sustainable development goals.
Addressing the special meeting of the Economic and Social Council held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York virtually, he said that diplomatic dialogue is essential to resolve mutual differences and ensure global peace, stability, and peaceful coexistence. He stated the need to strengthen multilateralism and global cooperation based on the UN Charter and international law.
During his address, Minister Khanal urged the global community to provide special assistance to countries most at risk due to climate change and geopolitical crises, especially least developed and landlocked developing countries like Nepal.
He emphasized the need to significantly increase investment in resilient infrastructure, renewable energy, and sustainable supply systems, and to provide access to technology and technological innovation.
In addition, he urged for immediate assurance of concessional financial assistance, emergency aid, and debt relief measures for countries with weak economies. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this address by Foreign Minister Khanal has further strengthened Nepal’s diplomatic stance and voice for global economic justice in the international arena.
