Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has embarked on a journey to Uganda on Wednesday, leading a delegation from Nepal. The purpose of the visit is to participate in the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit scheduled to take place in Kampala from January 19 to 20.
The Prime Minister, accompanied by his daughter Ganga Dahal, Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Prasad Saud, Sewa Lamsal (Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and other high-ranking government officials, boarded Qatar Airlines, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the two-day Summit, PM Dahal is slated to address the plenary session on the theme ‘Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence.’ Additionally, he will attend a state banquet hosted by Uganda’s President, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in honor of the Heads of Delegations from NAM member states.
Apart from participating in Summit activities, PM Dahal is scheduled to engage in bilateral meetings with Heads of State, Heads of Government, and other dignitaries attending the event.
Foreign Minister Saud had previously departed for Uganda at midnight of January 15 to partake in the ministerial meeting occurring from January 17 to 18. Preceding the ministerial meeting, a senior officials meeting took place from January 15 to 16.

The Summit’s agenda includes the consideration of the preparatory ministerial meeting’s report, reviewing progress achieved since the 18th NAM Summit in 2019, and the adoption of the Kampala Declaration, among other topics.
As a founding member of NAM, Nepal actively participates in all its Summits, with the principle of nonalignment being a fundamental aspect of the country’s foreign policy.
Prime Minister Dahal is scheduled to return to Kathmandu on the morning of January 21. Following the 19th NAM Summit, the Third South Summit is set to take place in Uganda from January 21 to 22, led by Foreign Secretary Lamsal. The summit will be preceded by a Ministerial Meeting on January 17-18, with Foreign Minister Saud leading the Nepali delegation. This Ministerial Meeting follows a Senior Officials Meeting on January 15-16, setting the stage for substantive discussions on the agenda.
Nepal’s active participation in these diplomatic endeavors underscores its commitment to international cooperation, mutual respect, and the pursuit of global prosperity. The outcomes of these summits are expected to further strengthen Nepal’s ties with the international community.
