Official Invitation Paves the Way for PM Oli’s India Visit

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is preparing for a visit to India later this month, following the formal delivery of an invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The invitation was extended personally by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during a high-level diplomatic mission to Kathmandu during the weekend.

Foreign Secretary Misri, undertaking a two-day visit at the invitation of his Nepalese counterpart Amrit Bahadur Rai, met with PM Oli at Singha Durbar on Sunday.

During the courtesy call, Misri handed over the official invitation letter from PM Modi. Oli’s Chief Advisor, Bishnu Prasad Rimal, confirmed the invitation and stated that the two officials discussed “issues spanning from the exchange of high-level visits to bilateral relations and mutual interests.”

Misri’s visit served as a crucial preparatory step, focusing on strengthening ties and advancing cooperation. Beyond his meeting with PM Oli.

The Indian Foreign Secretary held talks with President Ram Chandra Paudel. At Sheetal Niwas, President Paudel emphasized the deep-rooted social, cultural, religious, and economic ties between the two nations. He noted Nepal’s appreciation for India’s socio-economic progress and expressed a desire for deeper cooperation, stating India’s achievements were a source of encouragement.

During his meeting with Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, discussions centered on bilateral relations and regional issues.

Separate meetings were held with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

Throughout his engagements, Misri reiterated Nepal’s importance under India’s “Neighborhood First” policy. He emphasized that his visit aimed to advance connectivity, development cooperation, and the broader bilateral partnership.

This upcoming trip will mark Prime Minister Oli’s first official visit to India since assuming office for his current term 14 months ago. Sources indicate the visit is expected to take place later this month, though the exact date remains unannounced. Both governments have agreed the schedule will be finalized and made public through mutual diplomatic channels.
