Prakriti Lamsal Case: Diplomatic Initiatives Underway says, Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba has said that necessary diplomatic initiatives are being taken regarding the incident at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Odisha, India.

She said she had been in touch with the Nepal embassy in Delhi, and necessary diplomatic initiatives were initiated in the wake of the death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal in the hostel of the university and the subsequent treatment of Nepali students.

Minister Rana is currently in Oman for a formal program. Dr. Rana informed that he has been in touch with the concerned parties since this morning and in the morning he instructed the Nepali Ambassador to India, Dr. Shankar Sharma, to understand the reality of the incident and work with the necessary urgency regarding the problems faced by the Nepali students.

She said that Ambassador Dr. Sharma has been working in this regard and a few days ago, the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi had also issued a statement.

She said that she had spoken to the Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, over the phone this afternoon for the safety of Nepali students. He also informed that necessary initiatives and coordination are being made for this.

Minister Dr. Rana also said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working with necessary readiness in this regard and will inform about the latest situation.

A Nepali student was found dead under unclear circumstances in a hostel at Odisha’s Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University on Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year B.Tech student. The cause of death is yet to be ascertained.

Reports suggest that she had previously complained to the university’s International Relations Office about alleged abuse by a male classmate. A social media user also shared an audio clip related to the case. Students protested outside the university after the incident, accusing the administration of negligence.
