An interaction program organized by the Nepal-India Open Border Dialogue Group in Parsa highlighted the crucial role of an open border in fostering friendly relations between Nepal and India.
Held in Birgunj, the event brought together leaders and experts from both nations.
During the program, chaired by Dr. Rajeev Jha, National Chairman of the Nepal-India Open Border Dialogue Group, robust discussions centered around the theme “Open Border – Bridge of Smooth Relations.” Dr. Jha criticized the composition of the EPG report preparation committee, questioning its suitability in addressing the complexities of the Nepal-India border.
Keshav Jha, representing the National Liberation Revolution, emphasized the nuanced dimensions of bilateral relations, stressing the importance of mutual understanding and cooperation.
Senior journalist Chandra Kishor raised concerns about the militarization of the Madhesh region under the pretext of border security. He advocated for legislation that aligns with the aspirations of border-area residents.

Mahesh Agrawal, a social activist from Raxaul, echoed sentiments on the necessity of open borders for facilitating seamless interaction between the peoples of both countries. State member Shyam Patel also rejected the idea of erecting border fences.
Professor Dr. Pramod Kumar Kushwaha highlighted the role of education in clarifying public perceptions about the border, attributing misunderstandings to deficiencies in the education system.
