A delegation from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) recently visited Nepal to advance the implementation of the MCC Nepal Compact.

Jonathan Brooks, MCC’s Deputy Vice President for Europe, Asia, Pacific, and Latin America, along with Caroline T. Nguyen, Managing Director for the same regions, met with MCA-Nepal officials and other leaders.

During their meeting at the Ministry of Finance, Minister Barsha Man Pun emphasized the government’s commitment to completing the MCC project within the established timeframe. He stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination to ensure timely progress.

Minister Pun also addressed key issues related to land acquisition for project implementation and forest area usage, assuring that these matters would be resolved under the MCC Nepal program.

Vice President Brooks provided updates on the construction of electricity transmission lines and roads, expressing satisfaction with the project’s progress so far.

Nepal is currently executing two MCC projects: upgrading an 80-kilometer section of the East-West Highway and constructing a 315-kilometer 400 kV transmission line, along with three substations.

The United States is contributing $500 million in financial support for the MCC agreement, while the Nepali government’s contribution stands at $19.7 million.
