Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health and Population, Mr. Upendra Yadav, addressed the fifty-seventh session of the Commission on Population and Development, in New York on Monday.
Minister Yadav emphasized the importance of fully implementing the Program of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Nepal has consistently prioritized the ICPD’s goals since its adoption in 1994. Minister Yadav highlighted various policies, plans, and programs aimed at improving the quality of life for Nepali citizens, with a commitment to a rights-based, inclusive, innovative, and sustainable approach to population and development.
In addition to the formal session, Deputy Prime Minister Yadav also addressed an informal plenary meeting organized by the President of the General Assembly.

Reflecting on the thirtieth anniversary of the ICPD, he acknowledged significant progress in areas such as poverty reduction, health system improvement, gender equality, and reproductive rights. However, challenges remain, and progress varies across countries.
Minister Yadav’s participation underscores Nepal’s dedication to sustainable development and equitable well-being for its citizens.
Minister Yadav is expected to return home on May 7.
