Nepal Suspends Labor Permits for Russia and Ukraine Amidst Conflict Concerns

More From Author

The government has taken a significant measure by suspending the issuance of labor permits for Nepali individuals seeking employment in Russia and Ukraine.

This decision, announced by the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security, is motivated by concerns over Nepali nationals potentially being recruited into the armies of these countries.

This action follows tragic reports of Nepali citizens losing their lives while serving in the Russian Army amidst the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.

The suspension of permit issuance aims to safeguard the safety and well-being of Nepali citizens and prevent their involvement in conflict zones.

While Nepal has a historical tradition of sending its youth to serve in foreign militaries, notably as Gurkhas for the British and Indian armies, there are no bilateral agreements in place for such arrangements beyond participation in United Nations Peacekeeping Forces.
