On April 12, 2024, Russia celebrated the International Day of Human Space Flight and Cosmonautics Day.
In Nepal’s capital city Kathmandu, the Ambassador of Russia to Nepal, Alexey Novikov, along with the entire Embassy staff, paid tribute to Yuri Gagarin, the Russian cosmonaut who made history as the first human to venture into space.
They laid a wreath at the monument dedicated to Gagarin, which was inaugurated on April 24, 2019, by the-then Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Bidya Sunder Shakya, and two-time Soviet Union hero, Russian cosmonaut Viktor Savinykh.

In his address, the Ambassador emphasized the pivotal role played by Russian cosmonauts in space exploration. Let’s delve into some remarkable achievements:
Yuri Gagarin became the first person to journey into outer space aboard the Vostok-1 spacecraft, orbiting the Earth for 1 hour and 48 minutes.
Valentina Tereshkova holds the distinction of being the first woman to venture into space solo, paving the way for future female astronauts.
As the first person to perform a spacewalk outside his spacecraft, Leonov pushed the boundaries of human exploration.
Gherman Titov achieved another milestone by conducting a space flight lasting longer than a day.
These brave Russian Soviet cosmonauts risked their lives for the advancement of global progress and the prosperity of generations to come.
Their exploits remain etched in history, inspiring us all to reach for the stars.
