The United States Youth Council 2024 (USYC) concluded its orientation program on Sunday, wrapping up with a keynote address by former Prime Minister Babu Ram Bhattarai, who emphasized the pivotal role of young people in fostering development initiatives.

Throughout the program’s duration, esteemed speakers such as Member of Parliament Sobita Gautam, renowned singer Prakash Saput, and acclaimed photojournalist Skanda Gautam engaged participants in discussions on the intersection of art, activism, and politics within the context of Nepal.

Moreover, attendees were equipped with essential skills, including fact-checking and strategies to combat misinformation, alongside sessions on fostering effective teamwork dynamics to enhance collective impact.

The program’s agenda delved into various facets of social impact, featuring talks on USAID’s developmental endeavors in Nepal and an impassioned discourse on LGBTQIA+ rights. Additionally, participants engaged in workshops addressing contemporary challenges, including problem-solving techniques, social media management, and insightful discussions on Nepal’s economic landscape.

Dignitaries such as US envoy Dean R. Thompson and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Indira Rana lent their presence to the inaugural day of the program, underlining its significance.

This year’s USYC boasts a diverse cohort of 55 members hailing from 35 districts and seven provinces, reflecting Nepal’s rich social, religious, cultural, ethnic, and gender diversity.
