Rishi Dhakal, Nepal’s honorary consul general for San Diego, California, has been granted a four-year extension to his term.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Nepalese Cabinet, ensuring Dhakal’s continued service until 2028.
Initially appointed as honorary consul in 2013, Dhakal has been a driving force in facilitating the import of Nepali products, particularly ready-made garments and handicrafts, into the United States.
His leadership in this realm has not only bolstered his business ventures but also contributed to promoting Nepalese commerce and culture in the western region of the U.S., notably in California.

Beyond his entrepreneurial endeavors, Dhakal has been an advocate for the Nepali community, notably playing a role in advocating for the provision of dual citizenship for non-resident Nepalis.
His contributions to business and advocacy have earned him recognition, including the prestigious Business Personality of the Year Award bestowed by the Nepalese government in 2014.
In addition to his import ventures, Dhakal has diversified his investments, venturing into businesses such as restaurants and real estate, both in California and Nepal.
His family’s philanthropic efforts are noteworthy, with substantial contributions made towards initiatives such as the establishment of the Pashupati Foundation in Los Angeles, exemplifying their commitment to social welfare.
Dhakal’s extension underscores his ongoing dedication to fostering economic and cultural ties between Nepal and the United States, particularly within the California region.
