World Bank Country Director for Nepal, Faris Hadad Zervos, Meets with Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane

On Monday, Faris Hadad Zervos, the Country Director for Nepal, Maldives, and Sri Lanka at the World Bank, paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

During the meeting, Zervos expressed the World Bank’s willingness to support Nepal in two critical areas: a comprehensive disaster risk reduction project and institutional capacity development.

The World Bank aims to enhance disaster resilience by collaborating with the Nepali government. Given the potential risks associated with large hydropower projects, the World Bank intends to strengthen the government’s capacity to manage such challenges.

Deputy Prime Minister Lamichhane expressed gratitude for the World Bank’s ongoing support across various domains, including post-earthquake reconstruction, social protection, and disaster management.

Additionally, on Monday, Caroline Spannath Varma, the country representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), also visited Deputy Prime Minister Lamichhane. Varma expressed optimism about future enhanced cooperation between the UNHCR and Nepal.

Deputy Prime Minister Lamichhane commended the vital role played by the UNHCR in managing Nepal’s refugee-related affairs during different periods.
