Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) has emphasized that his government is focused on enhancing trade and infrastructure along the Nepal-China border.

In a recent address at the 24th General Assembly of the Nepal Himalayan Cross-Border Commerce Association, the Prime Minister underscored the need for coordinated initiatives to streamline inter-country checkpoints and bolster economic activity in border regions.

Prime Minister Prachanda highlighted the progress made in discussions with Chinese officials during his recent visit, including agreements to open traditional checkpoints, develop infrastructure such as the Tokha-Chhare tunnel route, and expedite the construction of the Hilsa-Simikot road. He stressed that while consensus is crucial, further diplomatic efforts are necessary to ensure systematic development and trade promotion along the border.

The Prime Minister also commended the Nepal Himalayan Cross-Border Commerce Association for its role in facilitating trade between Nepal and China, particularly during challenging times such as natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Highlighting the importance of diplomatic efforts and acknowledging the organization’s contributions, he affirmed the government’s commitment to providing support and fostering cooperation to facilitate bilateral and regional trade.

During his visit to China last September, Prime Minister Prachanda engaged in extensive discussions on border area development and collaboration between Nepal and China.

Several agreements were reached, including initiatives to enhance trade facilitation and infrastructure projects, signifying a significant step forward in promoting cross-border trade.

With a renewed emphasis on managing border checkpoints and enhancing trade infrastructure, Prime Minister Prachanda reiterated the government’s dedication to fostering diplomatic initiatives for the sustainable development of border areas and the promotion of trade between Nepal and China.
