Foreign Minister Shrestha Holds Talks with Chinese Counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing

Vice-Premier and Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha has been engaged in significant diplomatic discussions during his visit to Beijing. On Tuesday evening, he met with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, marking a pivotal moment in bilateral relations.

The meeting, saw Vice-Premier Narayankaji Shrestha discussing various aspects of cooperation and mutual concerns with Wang Yi, who is one of the key figures of the Chinese government under the helm of President Xi Jinping.

Chinese media reports highlight Wang Yi’s emphasis on strengthening political support and promoting high-quality collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), as well as deepening people-to-people connections between the two nations.

Yesterday, after arriving in Beijing, Shrestha held talks with Wang Huning, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and a member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) Central Committee.

Discussions during these high-profile meetings encompassed a wide range of topics, including economic cooperation, connectivity, and fostering people-to-people contacts.

Expressing commitment to implementing agreements reached between China and Nepal, Shrestha commended China’s achievements under General Secretary Xi Jinping’s leadership. He reiterated Nepal’s steadfast adherence to the one-China principle and expressed readiness to enhance cooperation across various sectors.

In addition to meetings with high-ranking Chinese officials, Shrestha also met with Sun Haiyan, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, to further discuss mutual concerns.

Following his discussions in Beijing, Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha is scheduled to visit several regions in China, including Chongqing, Lhasa, and Sichuan provinces.
