Minister for Forest and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, currently in India for the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS), held a meeting with his Indian counterpart Bhupender Yadav on Friday.
The discussions in New Delhi revolved around matters of bilateral interest and relations, according to Minister Shahi’s chief private secretary, Lek Bikram Shahi. Minister Shahi emphasized the deep ties between the two neighboring nations, expressing gratitude for India’s support in Nepal’s development across various sectors.
The meeting also covered topics such as biodiversity conservation and the possibility of a bilateral agreement for cooperation in this area. Minister Shahi requested India’s assistance in managing red sandalwood and underscored the importance of a joint program to tackle air pollution, a shared concern in South Asia.
He extended an invitation to Minister Yadav to participate in the Sagarmatha Dialogue, which Nepal is hosting from May 16 to 18 under the theme ‘Climate Change, Mountains, and the Future of Humanity.’ Minister Shahi expressed hope for his Indian counterpart’s presence at the event.
Senior officials from both countries attended the meeting. Minister Shahi has been in New Delhi since March 4 to participate in the Summit, which runs from March 5 to 7, and is set to return to Nepal on March 8.
