Foreign Minister Leaving for China, Aims to Strengthen Nepal-China Relations

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, is set to embark on a significant journey to China today.

This nine-day official visit to the People’s Republic of China comes as a response to an invitation extended by Wang Yi, a key figure in the Communist Party of China Central Committee as well as the Foreign Minister of China.

During his stay, DPM Shrestha will engage in bilateral discussions with his Chinese counterpart, Wang, scheduled for March 26. Additionally, he will meet with prominent figures in Beijing and other regions of China. The trip concludes on April 1 when DPM Shrestha returns to Kathmandu.

In anticipation of this diplomatic mission, DPM Shrestha led a strategic meeting on Saturday, gathering officials from various ministries. The aim was to ensure a productive outcome from his forthcoming visit, focusing on previously established agreements and key areas of cooperation such as energy, trade, tourism, connectivity, agriculture, technology transfer, and border management.

The preparatory meeting emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and fostering mutual cooperation between Nepal and China.

DPM Shrestha reiterated his commitment to this goal, stating, “My visit aims to bolster our ties and deepen mutual cooperation. We will also assess the progress of previously established agreements with China.”
