FM Sharma attends Zia’s state funeral in Dhaka

Minister for Foreign Affairs Bala Nanda Sharma attended the state funeral of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Dhaka on Wednesday, laying a floral wreath on behalf of the Government of Nepal.

During the visit, Minister Sharma met Tarique Rahman, Begum Zia’s son and Acting BNP Chair, conveying condolences and honoring her contributions to Bangladesh’s political and democratic development.

He also called on Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s Interim Government, delivering a condolence message from Nepal’s Prime Minister Sushila Karki, highlighting Begum Zia’s role in strengthening Nepal-Bangladesh ties, according to a press statement from the Embassy of Nepal in Bangladesh.

Minister Sharma also met Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Adviser H.E. Md. Touhid Hossain, discussing ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, connectivity, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, the statement added.

Minister Sharma’s visit, from Dec. 30, 2025, to Jan. 1, 2026, concludes on Thursday with his return to Kathmandu.
