The visiting Additional Secretary at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Munu Mahawar, met with Prime Minister Sushila Karki and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal on Tuesday, reinforcing bilateral cooperation on several fronts.

In a courtesy call at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar, Mahawar and PM Karki discussed matters of bilateral interest, according to a statement from the PM’s secretariat.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mahawar held detailed talks with Home Minister Aryal at the Ministry of Home Affairs. The discussions centered on the longstanding Nepal-India relationship and mutual interests.

A key point from the meeting was India’s firm commitment to supporting Nepal’s upcoming House of Representatives elections, scheduled for Falgun 21. Mahawar assured India’s full support and readiness to facilitate necessary resources, logistics, and security materials for the electoral process.

Mahawar also conveyed India’s assistance for reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts following the recent Jajarkot earthquake, as well as for restoring infrastructure damaged by various disasters. He reiterated India’s commitment to the timely completion of the integrated check post in Bhairahawa and other projects in Nepal involving Indian investment. The Indian official extended an invitation to Home Minister Aryal to visit India at a convenient time.

In response, Home Minister Aryal highlighted the need to expedite work on the Dodhara-Chadani dry port project. He outlined the current government’s focus on good governance, law enforcement, service delivery, and public security.

Aryal emphasized strengthening cooperation between the security agencies of both countries to control cross-border crimes, including theft, robbery, and smuggling. He stressed the importance of capacity building for security forces and effective information exchange. The Home Minister also called for accelerated progress on the Nepal Police Academy in Panauti, which is being built with Indian support.
