US Ambassador to Nepal Dean R. Thompson and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song held separate courtesy calls with the newly appointed Prime Minister of the interim government Sushila Karki.
During the meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office, Singha Durbar on Thursday, they discussed various issues of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Karki thanked the United States for its support to Nepal and expressed confidence that it would continue to do so in the coming days. In response, ambassador Thompson congratulated Prime Minister Karki and expressed the commitment of the United States to support Nepal as a priority.
Similarly, Chinese Ambassador Song congratulated Prime Minister Karki on behalf of the Chinese government and expressed confidence that the relations between the two countries will be further strengthened. He said China is always ready to work for the benefit of both countries and people.
In response, Prime Minister Karki said that the relations between Nepal and China are historical and close. She reiterated Nepal’s commitment to the One-China policy.
Prime Minister Karki expressed confidence that the cooperation received from China in the areas of trade, investment, connectivity, agriculture, energy and tourism will continue.
She thanked China for its readiness in the reconstruction of the Mitheri Bridge at Rasuwagadhi, which was washed away in the floods, and hoped for help from other checkpoints to facilitate movement.
