Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri commenced a two-day official visit to Nepal this morning, focusing on strengthening the multifaceted partnership between the two neighbours.

Arriving at the cordial invitation of his Nepali counterpart, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, Mr. Misri’s agenda centers on comprehensive discussions covering various aspects of Nepal-India relations.

Key areas of focus include enhancing connectivity, deepening development cooperation, and addressing other matters of mutual interest, as confirmed by Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Demonstrating the importance of the visit, Foreign Secretary Misri paid an immediate courtesy call on Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli earlier today.

The meeting took place at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers within the historic Singha Durbar complex.

The interaction provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on the state of bilateral relations and the shared priorities for cooperation. Prime Minister Oli was accompanied by his Chief Advisor, Bishnu Prasad Rimal. Officials from Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indian Ambassador to Nepal were also present during the meeting.

The core of Secretary Misri’s visit will be his formal discussions with Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai. These talks are expected to delve into practical steps to advance cooperation, particularly in the critical areas of cross-border connectivity infrastructure and ongoing development projects funded by India.

Beyond the meeting with Prime Minister Oli and the substantive talks with FS Rai, the Indian Foreign Secretary’s schedule includes calls on other high-level dignitaries in the Nepali government. These engagements underscore the broad-based nature of the bilateral relationship.

Foreign Secretary Misri is scheduled to depart Kathmandu tomorrow, concluding his short but intensive diplomatic mission aimed at reinforcing the close ties and collaborative spirit between Nepal and India.
